There is an impact of hormonal effects of menopause or decreased estrogen production on the dermal layer. Research conducted in human beings, however, have not acknowledged skin changes that is specific to decreased estrogen and specific skin changes that are a result of sun exposure or normal sequential aging. Studies in animals have showed results that indicate, lack of estrogen can cause a decrease in collagen levels of two (2) percent per year and a decrease in skin thickness of one (1) percent per year.
